Contacts Tool allows you to export all my address book or selected records in seven different formats: Binary, TXT, HTML, LDIF (data interchange format LDAP), CSV (Comma Separated Values), MS Windows and vCard. Exported files can be easily transferred to a PC or Mac via WiFi or using the built-in 3G/EDGE network server or e-mail (*). Files can also be sent directly to another iPhone or iPod via WiFi, 3G/EDGE or Bluetooth (**). The device should include obtaining Contact Tools and run through a web server or a Bluetooth server. Contact Tools can import files in LDIF and Binary formats.
On the Contact Tools everyone can:
- Send all your address book or just a few records on other iPhone / iPod and import records in the device is received.
- Save an entire book in LDIF format for backup purposes.
- Create a file of HTML (including photographs of contacts) in order to view a web-browser.
- Create a text file (no pictures of contacts) for editing or printing on the PC / Mac.
- Because LDIF is supported by a large number of applications, your contacts can be imported by other products currently not supported by iTunes.
- Contact the applications PC / Mac, which support the format LDIF, can be transferred to iPhone / iPod.
Contacts Tool also lets you delete all your address book or a series of selected records with individual buttons removed (plus confirmation button). Backup file is automatically created during this process. Deleted records can be restored by importing the backup file.
On the Contacts Tool you can also control groups. Groups can be created and deleted. Contacts can be added and removed from groups. Export groups supported.
You may also want to modify telephone numbers (very handy for travelers). Coming to another country for example, you can add international dialing prefix for their phone numbers to be able to call home. On his return can not all be removed.
(*) E-mail requires a minimum of iOS 3.0
(**) Bluetooth file transfer takes a minimum of iOS 3.0 and iPhone 3G/3GS, or iPod Touch second generation.
